One page a day.
A quiet room.

Cloister is a life diary. Under the username you choose, you write a single page each day; your pages are pinned to a stone wall, and anyone who uses Cloister can read them. No likes, no comments — nobody here writes for applause.

For adults 18 and over in the United States. The app is in English; it is on Google Play for Android and in a free public beta on iPhone. No ads, and we haven't added analytics or tracking packages either.

Join the public beta.

Cloister is in a free public beta on TestFlight. It is for adults 18 and over in the United States, on an iPhone with iOS 16.4 or later. The number of spots is limited.

  1. Install TestFlight from the App Store.
  2. Open the beta link below on your iPhone.
  3. Sign in with Apple, choose a username and write today's page.
  4. Tell us what felt confusing or missing.

Join the beta (TestFlight)

On Android, you don't need the beta: Cloister is on Google Play.

Feedback: use Send Beta Feedback in TestFlight, or write to growevolve.business@gmail.com. Anyone who uses Cloister can read your pages, so please leave out details that identify you or others. If the link says the beta is full, it is closed for now.

A grown-up, considered life diary.

You write for the day, not for show. On Cloister a page isn't measured by how many people read it; it is measured by what you wrote.

One page a day

You get a single page each day. You edit only today's page; a new page opens at midnight. Past pages can't be changed — but you can delete them if you wish.

No likes, no comments

There is no heart, counter or comment box under a page. Readers read and move on; writers write without waiting for applause.

A stone wall

Your profile is a stone wall: each day, a sheet of paper pinned to it. Tap a date and that page lifts off the wall and comes forward.

Stone wall: pinned diary pages.

Choose the paper, the type, the ink

For every page you choose the paper, the font and the ink colour. When someone opens your page, it looks the way you chose on their screen too. Lists such as Today and Explore show a plain preview first.

Explore: newest first

The Explore tab shows other people's pages, newest at the top. No algorithm reorders them. The Today tab shows only the pages of people you follow.

Explore screen: other users' pages, in date order.

Follow

You can follow someone whose pages you like to read. Follower and following counts are visible to everyone; the lists are visible only to you. The person you follow sees you in their followers list. Tap a name in your Following list to go straight to that person's wall.

What you write is public.

Cloister is not a secret notebook. Every page you write can be read by anyone who uses Cloister — except accounts you have blocked or that have blocked you.

Other people know you by the username you choose. Pages aren't published on the open web; you need to be in the app to read them.

Someone who reads a page can copy it or take a screenshot. If you delete a page it leaves Cloister, but a copy someone else made is not in our hands. So think twice about details that could identify you.

And what we leave out on purpose.

A social app is often defined less by what it adds than by what it doesn't.

  • No likes. No hearts or counters under a page, and no rankings.
  • No comments. No one can write anything under a page.
  • No ads. We haven't added analytics or tracking packages to the app either.
  • No photos or video. Cloister is words only.
  • Contact details are checked before a page goes up. The app looks for phone numbers, email addresses and street addresses in common formats; if it finds one, it warns you and «Remove it» takes it out in one tap. Unusual spellings can slip past it, so keep details that identify you out of your page.
  • No ranking algorithm. In Explore the newest page sits at the top.
Another user's wall: follow and message buttons.

A quiet room, your door.

On Cloister, you decide who can reach you.

  • Messages only if the door is open. To message someone, they must have turned messages on; if they're off, the «Send message» button is greyed out.
  • An account you block can't see you. It can't see your profile or your pages, follow you, or send you messages.
  • Report. You can report a page, a profile or a message from inside the app; the person you report is never told who reported them.
  • Gentle reminders in messages. When you type contact details into a message, the app may remind you; that check happens on your phone. Some words and phrases that break the Community Guidelines are blocked automatically before a page or a message is posted.
  • Messages are not end-to-end encrypted. If a message is reported, we may review that conversation.

Pricing and subscription.

Subscriptions haven't started yet, so Cloister is free for now. On Android you can choose to subscribe early in the app; your paid plan then starts the day you subscribe. On iPhone, Cloister isn't on the App Store yet, and nothing is charged in the beta. Your 30 free days start the day you create your account; if you create it before subscriptions begin, they start on the day subscriptions begin.
