Delete your Cloister account
Last updated: October 25, 2026
Two ways to delete your account. In the app: Settings → Delete account. If you can't open the app, ask us by email at growevolve.business@gmail.com. This page explains both, what is deleted and what we keep.
In the app
Open Settings → Delete account and choose how:
- Delete in 30 days. Your profile, username and entries are hidden from everyone right away, and you are signed out. If you sign in again with the same Apple or Google account within 30 days, the app offers to restore your account as it was. After 30 days your account is deleted permanently. The app shows the exact date when you choose this.
- Delete now. Your account is deleted right away, and the app confirms it.
If you can't open the app
You can ask us to delete your account without the app. Uninstalling the app does not delete your account.
- Email growevolve.business@gmail.com with the subject "Delete my account" and your Cloister username.
- We write to the email address linked to your Cloister account and ask you to reply. That is your real address, Apple's private relay address if you chose "Hide My Email", or your Google Account address.
- When you have confirmed, we delete the account.
We respond within 45 days. If we can't confirm that the request comes from you, for example because you no longer have access to the email address linked to the account, we may not be able to delete the account.
Delete only some of your data
You don't have to delete your account to delete an entry. Open one of your entries and choose Delete; the app asks you to confirm. A deleted entry is removed from Cloister right away, together with its earlier versions, unless it is part of a report (see What remains, and why). It can't remove copies other people made. You can also unfollow someone from their profile, and unblock someone under Settings → Blocked accounts.
What is deleted
- your profile and username;
- your entries and their earlier versions;
- your follows and blocks;
- your settings;
- your sign-in account and sessions;
- all messages you sent and received. This means your conversations also disappear for the other person.
What remains, and why
- Reports and the copies saved with them. Reports you made stay, but they are no longer linked to your account. A copy saved with a report still shows the usernames involved at that moment, including yours.
- Identity information, if needed for safety or the law. If a report about your account is still open, we keep your identity information for up to 90 days. If a legal hold applies, we keep it for at least 1 year.
- Records of moderation actions (3 years).
- A copy saved for a legal hold, if one applies.
- Your former username. It is reserved for 90 days, without any link to you.
- Server logs and backups, for up to 7 days.
- If you subscribed: Apple's or Google's subscription records and the record that you agreed to automatic renewal, no longer linked to your account.
- A fingerprint of your Apple or Google sign-in identifier and the date your free month started, for 30 days.
The full list, with how long each item is kept, is in sections 9 and 10 of our Privacy Policy.
Subscriptions
Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription. Cancel it in your Apple Account settings (iPhone) or in Google Play (Android: open Google Play, tap your profile icon, then Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions), ideally before you delete your account.
